Very Funky yet inexpensive look for a lamp shade can be achieved using nothing more than plastic bottle and with a plastic spoons .
When plastic bottle and plastic spoon assembled together the shape of the spoons will create very beautiful piece of artwork, & we are sure that everyone will fall in love with this lamp.
It’s a simple craft project that requires patience and little time; but the end result is well worth your efforts.
We took the empty plastic container from kitchen which was having a handle to its lid and build a beautiful DIY spoon lamp, just by sticking head of plastic spoons with help of glue.
So lets get started .
These are the materials you will require :
Transparent plastic Container
Lots of plastic spoons
Light lamp and a cable
1. Get the plastic spoons : May be you have a collection of plastic spoons already cluttering up the junk drawer if so they might be just get the tickets otherwise it can purchased from local market or super market.
Choose all the spoons in same size, if you do use different sizes plan a pattern in advance to avoid the end result looking haphazard.
2. Disassemble the spoons :
For this project you will only want to use the actual head of the spoon while discarding the handle.
Neatly remove the spoon head from the handle.
Don’t throw the spoon handles you might decide that you would like to use them to garnish or enhance the lamp shade.
Cut the spoon some where near the top part as we shown in the image above. And place all the spoon heads in bowl to make it more organized.
3. Bring a re-purposed plastic container turned into a shade :
Clean out and dry a plastic bottle which you have chosen to form a light shade. Generally large plastic bottle is more suitable.
Cut out the base of a plastic bottle with the help of a cutter .
For our lamp we used a transparent plastic container with a lid that have round handle.
4. Decide spoon pattern –
Now this is the actual stage where you are going to determine the pattern you would like for the lamp shade.
Using the spoon heads you can aim for a neat interlocking shell like pattern that allows the spoons to rest evenly a little bit over each other or you would try having the spoon heads face outword.
To stick spoon heads to container on temporary basis (till you decide on actual pattern) you can use double tape.
This trial will help you to reassure that the pattern looks good or need to change it.
5. Lay the first row of spoons around the bottom of a bottle as shown in below image.
once you are happy with pattern you are tested fire up the glue.
Work evenly around the plastic bottle to adhere the spoon heads. Make sure that it looks neat and avoid to put in too much glue so it wouldn’t look messy.
Continue working around entire bottle until it’s completely covered and you can’t see anything underneath the spoon heads.
They should all sit around the bottle evenly. Also it is important to make adjustments as you go because once the glue has dried we can’t do changes in that.
6. Insert electrical equipment to light up the lamp
After making this effort insert the electrical elements through the bottle neck as required.
And lastly hang the lamp switch on the light and enjoy ambiance created as the light shines through the spoons.
