Kanda Batata Poha Recipe is a native of Maharastra state from India.

It is one of the famous breakfast recipe in Maharastra as well as other states from India. Poha is a Marathi word for main ingredient of this recipe. It means dry, flattened rice flakes. Easily available in India, but if you are not leaving in India then you can purchase it from Amazon.

This is an extremely easy recipe and rich in nutrition. Iron, fibers, carbohydrates content of rice flakes with added vegetables like potato, green peas, peanuts, coriander etc makes this recipe a perfect breakfast for everyone.

It taste best and easy to digest. Lets get to the recipe :-

Servings : 2 to 3

Ingredients :

Poha Recipe 001

2 cups poha
1 potato,boiled, chopped evenly in small cubes.
1 large onion, finely chopped
3 to 4 tbsp green peas (Mattar)
¼ tsp turmeric powder (Haldi powder)
1 tsp mustard seeds (rai)
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
3 to 4 tbsp peanuts
5-6 curry leaves
2 green chilli,chopped (add more or less as per taste)
1 tsp sugar or as required
1.5 tbsp oil
salt to taste

Lemon and Coriender leaves for garnishing

Method :

1.Rinse the poha (flattened rice) in running water till it become soft(they should easily get crushed between finger)
Then add turmeric powder to the poha and gently mix.And keep aside.

Poha Recipe 0022. Heat oil in the pan. Add the curry leaves first.

Poha Recipe 0033. Then add mustard seeds , cumin seeds crackle them.

Poha Recipe 0044. When cumin seeds sizzles, add onions & fry  till they become soft. Add pinch of salt to speed up the process.

5. Now add Peanuts and saute for a minute.

Poha Recipe 0066. After a minute add green peas and green chilies and saute them for few minutes. Add little bit sugar if needed.

Poha Recipe 0077. Add boiled potato and stir all ingredients together. Keep the flame low.

Poha Recipe 0088. Then add the poha. Finally add salt and stir gently.

Poha Recipe 0099. Mix all ingredients together for few second then cover and steam the poha for 2 minutes on a low flame.

Remove the lid and sprinkle some lemon juice, coriander leaves .
Serve kanda poha hot with tea.

Loved the idea of adding boiled potatoes to this recipe. Most people use peanuts & green peas but adding potato will bring some extra taste to plate.
